Causes of foot pain
Foot pain may be of different types – E.g. general heel pain, plantar fasciitis, Achilles Tendonosis, heel spurs and ankle sprains
Some of the common causes of foot pain are:
- Poor fitting footwear
- Being overweight
- Ageing
- Change in activity (e.g. a change of job or training schedule)
- Trauma (impact e.g. a heavy object falling onto your foot)
- Conditions e.g. Arthritis (which may affect you, as well as the way your feet work).
When to see a doctor
Call your doctor if you:
- If your pain is not improving after two weeks
- If the exercises make your pain worse
- If you have any tingling or loss of sensation in your foot
- the pain is severe or stopping you doing normal activities
- If you have diabetes
Treatment of foot pain
Below are some common treatments that are likely to be suggested.
- Ice and rest your foot.
- Wear comfortable footwear
- Wear heel pads, splits, casts, shoe inserts, etc as advised by your physiotherapist.
- Take pain relievers
- Physiotherapy
